James was born on April 3, 1945 in Minden, Louisiana to Ira Caskey, Sr. and Lucille Caskey and passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in Benton, Louisiana.

James worked in the oil and gas business for 37 years. The last 13 years he owned his own business. He learned by experience and was hands on. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the United States Army in the 1st Calvary Division. He loves his country. He loved his God.

He loved his family who meant everything to him. His joy and delight was in his grandsons and great-granddaughter. His last days were filled with thoughts of them. His great-granddaughter, Aliana, was his heart. He loved all animals. He loved to fish and take the grandkids in the boat and he wrote us lots of poems.

He was in recovery for almost 30 years, where God allowed him to be of service to others through his program. He could usually be seen at noon every day at the Lunch Bunch or Wednesday Night Step Study at the Koala Club.

He had a deep prayer life and if he said he would pray for you he did. He had no fear of death as he told Bro. Robert many time it’s a win win situation with me.

My next breath with be with JESUS!

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Caskey and mother-in-law, Kathryn Norfleet. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carolyn Caskey; daughters, C. Carmel Caskey and Michelle Caskey-Singleton and husband, Richard; grandsons, James Singleton and fiancé, Sabrina, Stephen Singleton and girlfriend, Celica, Nathaniel Singleton and wife, Katelynn and Jonathan Caskey and girlfriend, Adora; great-granddaughter, Aliana Elizabeth Singleton; sister, Donna Rhymes and husband, Eddie Wayne; brother, Ira Caskey, Jr. and wife, Joanne,  numerous nieces and nephews and fur baby, Misty.

Honoring James as pallbearers will be James Singleton, Stephen Singleton, Nathaniel Singleton, Jonathan Caskey, Richard Singleton and Jason Rhymes.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Kirtan Koticha, the oncologist staff who took great care of James, the Bossier Parish EMS and to Gentiva Hospice.
