James A. Bowen Jr.

James A. Bowen, Jr. passed away in Shelby, North Carolina on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from COVID. Jim was born on September 6, 1942 in Alexandria, Louisiana to James A. Bowen, Sr. and Mandalou Gay Bowen of Colfax, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Father Pike Thomas will be the Celebrant. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time and interment will follow the service at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Road, Bossier City, Louisiana. Jim graduated from Colfax High School in 1960 and Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1965. After graduation Jim joined the United States Air Force and was a pilot in a KC135 for 22 years. During his career he was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross". Upon retiring from the Air Force he went to work for the Louisiana Association for the Blind in Shreveport, Louisiana. He became the President/CEO of the company before retiring after 22 years in 2008. During retirement, Jim enjoyed playing golf, which was his passion. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mandalou Bowen and his son, Trey Bowen. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth of 55 years; daughter, Jennifer DeArment and husband, Mike; sister, Dianna Sorrells and husband, Mike; nephews, Paul and Bowen Sorrells and grandchildren, Claudia, Clay, Caroline, Clara DeArment. Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will most be remembered by his sense of humor, laughter and joy!
