James Calvin Bass

James Calvin Bass, 84 of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

James was born on October 13, 1938, to Joe Graves and Mary Lizzie Walker Bass in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Bossier Parish Schools and was a proud member of the Bearkat Class of 1956. He then went on to study at Centenary College.

Around 1958 he began working as a Shipping Clerk/Equipment Installer for Davidson Dental Supply in Shreveport where he met and fell in love with Freda Joy Cox. They married on August 16, 1959.

In 1964 James went to work in the Purchasing Dept. of Caddo Parish Schools. He loved his job and took great pride in doing it to the best of his ability. He was highly respected throughout the School System for the next 35 years before retiring in 1999.

James and Joy welcomed a daughter, Robin Renee, in 1966, and a son, James Timothy, in 1969. James was a man of tremendous faith and raised his family in the church. He was a devoted member of Barksdale Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon when he was 22 years old until they moved to Logansport after retiring. He then joined the First Baptist Church of Haslam where he served as a Deacon for the next 16 years. James spent his retirement years in Logansport, Louisiana where he put his master Gardening Skills to use. He loved working in the garden and reaped many edible rewards. He also loved sharing all of his knowledge and wisdom with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart with everything he did.

James was a beloved husband, father, PawPaw to grands and great-grands, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda Joy Bass; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and David Farrar of Henderson, TX; son, James Timothy Bass and partner, Cindy Reeves of Bossier City; grandchildren, Nikki Lewis of Kearney, NE, Samantha Bivens and husband, Kurt of Richmond, VA, Rebecca Farrar of Jackson, MS, Robert Farrar of Shreveport, LA, Meri Sepulvado and husband, Dillon of Bossier, Courtney Gasway, Aly Reeves, Caleb Reeves all of Bossier City, LA; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Duran and Ronin Goodell of Kearney, NE; brother, Donald Bass and wife, Mary Kay of Arlington, TX; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a multitude of friends.

Honoring James as pallbearers will be David Farrar, Jaxon Duran, Adam Putnam, Joe Hooper, Michael Bass, David Cox, and Steven Myers.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Haslam in Joaquin, TX. Private graveside services will be held at O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, LA.
