Ronnie was born February 4, 1941 in Shreveport, La. to John Donald and Marjorie Carter Alexander and passed away on November 5, 2018.
Ronnie was a 1959 graduate of Fair Park High School, attended Northwestern State University, and served six years in the Army National Guard. He spent his entire career at Tri-State Elevator Company and was a co-owner retiring in 1999. He was a charter member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Ronnie loved reading, flying radio-controlled air planes, and was an avid history buff. He loved football, especially the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints and was a long-time fan of the Woodlawn Knights. He had an amazing memory and ability to recall details of football games from many years ago including details of individual game plays, who he saw at the game and usually some interesting detail about the game or something that happened. Ronnie was a founding member of the Woodlawn High School Athletic Booster Club and served as president for many years. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with family and friends. If asked, he would have had difficulty selecting a favorite trip (because he enjoyed them all), but his favorite one may have been his trip with Sandra in 2007 to Tuscaloosa to watch LSU beat Alabama. He also spent many years traveling the country in his motor home to Florida, Utah, Colorado, and tailgating at LSU and New Orleans Saints games. He also loved attending the College World Series in Omaha, NE every year with Sandra.
Most importantly, Ronnie was a proud father and grandfather. He was always a kid at heart and loved playing games and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Anyone who spent any time with him knew him as a humble, laid back, gentle, funny with a dry intelligent sense of humor, patient, caring man who always put others first. He will be remembered for his tremendous generosity and desire to help those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Julia Edmiston Alexander, and siblings Teddy Alexander, John Donald Alexander, Jr., Margaret Ann Alexander, and Eileen Alexander Bott.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sandra Procell McKinney Alexander, his children James Ronald Alexander, Jr. (Robin), Connie Meade (Alan), Kenny Harvey, Elizabeth Walls (Scott), and Raymond McKinney (Julie); grandchildren Reaghan, Riley and Reid Alexander, Alicia Love Barr, Melissa Love Taylor, Brittany Love, Jennifer Meade, Matthew, Andrew, Benjamin and Cate Walls, Abigail and Hannah McKinney; great-grandchildren Alysson Taylor, Isaac Barr, Aurora Love, and Tayton Love; brothers Charles Alexander (Nancy), Lawrence Alexander (Lynn) and many nieces and nephews.
Honoring Ronnie as pallbearers will be brother-in-law Terrell Goodwin, nephew Bobby Edmiston, Benji Piazza, Chad McDowell, grandsons Matthew and Andrew Walls. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Muse and Fred Larson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Cassiere, Dr. Randall White, Dr. Tharwat Ghattas, the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Southwest Shreveport, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Garden Park Nursing home for their exceptional care of Ronnie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Shreveport.
What a beautiful difference one single life made.
