James Arnold Alderman

James Arnold Alderman, 94, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Born on November 17, 1931, in McAdams, Mississippi, James was the third of six children born to Wiley Clifton and Marie Poole Alderman. He graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1950 and served his country in the United States Army from January 11, 1954, until December 24, 1955.

In 1956, James moved to Shreveport to help build the newly constructed Schumpert Medical Center. On June 8, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Yvonne Powell. Together, they shared 69 cherished years of marriage. Their family grew as they welcomed three sons into their home: Michael, Glenn, and Keith. They made their home in Princeton, Louisiana, in 1969, where James and Mary resided happily for the next 57 years and were longtime faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Haughton.

A skilled craftsman, James worked as a bricklayer for over 40 years, leaving his mark on countless structures throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. In his retirement years, he delighted in working crossword puzzles and cheering on the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Alderman and Marie Alderman; his brothers, Clifton Alderman and Harold Alderman; his sister, Etoile Ward; and his beloved son, Glenn Alderman, and Glenn’s wife, Robin (Kirkley) Alderman.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary (Powell) Alderman; his sons, J. Michael Alderman and wife Dianne, and Keith Alderman and wife Patricia; his sister, Mildred Gallagher; and his brother, Carey Alderman.

His memory lives on through his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren: granddaughter, Heather (Alderman) Peters and husband, Matthew, along with great-grandchildren, David and Valerie; grandson, James Benjamin Alderman and wife, Savana, along with great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jemma, and Josie; granddaughter, Wendy (Alderman) Davis and husband, Wesley; grandson, Darren Alderman and wife, Ashton, along with great-grandchildren, Thomas, Anne, and Beth; granddaughter, Peyton (Alderman) Parker and husband, Sam, along with great-grandchild, Elaine.

James’ services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at First Baptist of Haughton. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am. The graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Honoring James as pallbearers will be Darren Alderman, Sam Parker, Wesley Davis, Matt Peters, Joel Jones, and Justin Jones.
