Jacqueline Shuford

Jacqueline (Jacque) Faye Dykes Shuford passed from this life to the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 11, 2025. She was born on December 3, 1948 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Jack Hamilton and Lurline Wood Dykes. Her childhood was shaped by the beautiful people of her beloved hometown who encouraged her love of Jesus and music. Her afternoons and weekends were blessed through the spoiling love of her paternal grandparents Thomas Lee and Nina Hardee Dykes. Her summers and free time were spent running through the red dirt roads of Halifax and Jim Island plantations under the watchful eyes of her beloved maternal grandparents, Claudie Lee and Cleo Grantham Wood.

Jacque was a proud graduate of the Pleasant Hill High School Class of 1966 and has shared so many fond memories. She fell in love with Dick Shuford, when she was six years old. They committed to a life of great adventures on February 3, 1968. Together they raised three extremely grateful daughters, traveled miles around the world making memories from the deserts of Algeria and Saudi Arabia to the green hills and valleys of England and Scotland. Our family thrived during our time in Bryan, Texas where we made wonderful lifelong friends.

Our mother began playing the piano at the age of five and has played in churches across the world. She loved gospel music and taught each of us how to sing and to lead others in worshipping God. She sang in the Northwestern State University Choir and led various music events throughout her life. Her sweet friend, Ginny Garlington, started out as a childhood piano partner and they wrapped up that partnership in the most recent years at Wallace Bapist Church. Mama loved every Thursday morning of practice so much.

Mama was also proud to be a middle school math teacher at Pleasant Hill High School. She helped those who were her students find a good start in life. She and our daddy were generous to so many people, often without any sharing of who they were. They lived to bring the Good News to the poor, but to also fund dreams. These last few decades they have enjoyed Shuford Hill and offered hospitality to friends and family far and near. We are particularly grateful to our precious friends, Bruce and Ginny Garlington and Mike and Vicki Sistrunk, for always being there for her through thick and thin.

We have learned at her knees that Jesus is the Lily of the Valley and we are forever thankful. We will miss chili suppers, salmon croquettes, and that little bit of chicken salad. We will miss her running her fingers through our hair and the pats on the back. We will miss the Christmases that she worked so hard to make perfect. We will miss crime show marathons. We will miss being told, “Get up, you will feel better.” Most of all we will miss late night chats and the funny things she shared.

She is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Dick Shuford, her parents, Jack and Lurline Dykes, and her mother-in-law, Alma Louise Shuford. She is also survived by their daughters and their husbands, Amanda and Joey Mayeaux of St. Martinville, Paula and Doyle Callender of Pleasant Hill, and Mary Stoker of Pleasant Hill. Also mourning are her grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jacqueline Mayeaux, Katherine and Alllison Callender, Rayden and Raven Farmer, and Zeph Stoker. She leaves one great-granddaughter, Henley Hammond.

Visitation will be held at Wallace Baptist Church, 5605 Hwy 177, Pelican, LA, Sunday, December 14 at Wallace Bapist Church from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Services will be held Monday, December 15 at Wallace Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with graveside to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rayden Farmer, Nathan Gewin, Bradley Hinds, Joe Hinds, Terry Hinds, Mark Haire, and Brad Walker. Honorary pallbearers are Zeph Stoker, Jerry Barnes, Rusty Broussard, Bruce Garlington, Clarence Gewin, Rick Hinds, Mike Sistrunk, Allen Walker, and Buddy Wood
