"Strong women, May we know them, May we be them, May we raise them" Anonymous
This quote was embroidered on a pillow which lay on our Mother's bed. Dinah and I believe it epitomized our dear Mother's life.
Born in Jonesboro, LA to Idell and John Henry Jordan, Mom's ancestors were descendants of pioneer families in Bienville and Jackson Parishes. Mom graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School and was two weeks shy of graduation from Meadows Draughan Business School in Shreveport when she married our father, Don C. Poole after a whirlwind courtship of only a few months. Mom often told the story of seeing him at a basketball game and telling her best friend that she had to meet him. They lived in Bienville, LA and were soon transferred by Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation to Vidor, TX. After another move to Richmond, TX and now with two daughters, they declined a move to Alabama and came home to Jonesboro, LA.
Imogene Jordan Poole left this world to enter the next on December 14, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, LA on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with burial in the family plot at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Bienville, LA. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until service time.
Mom devoted her life to her daughters, her husband, her family, and a multitude of friends. She was known for her skills in the kitchen and had a vast collection of cookbooks. She was skilled at the sewing machine, making everything from prom dresses to pleated drapes for their home. She truly loved a house full of family and friends, especially when she could cook for everyone. She worked for a short time for Pelican State Life Insurance Company where she was able to visit with many of these friends on a monthly basis. Some of her happiest years were spent in Bienville when Daddy had a huge garden and they worked together planting, harvesting, canning and preserving.
Later years were totally devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended swim meets, soccer games, numerous graduations, and countless trips to the beach. She was a "Mimi" you could call for help anytime or anywhere. She never disappointed. We feel extremely grateful that Mom lived to enjoy her great-grandchildren. She was also Mimi to her "two little white four-legged girls, Tootie and Elizabeth. Many hours were spent in Bienville holding "her girls".
Mom was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister-in-law, Martha Jordan. She is survived by her children, Debra and Alan Freyer of Shreveport and Dinah and James Kirkham of Bienville; her grandchildren, Andrew Bradley Freyer, Leslie Allison and Weber Hill, and Leigh Jordan and Claude Pasquier all of Shreveport; her great-grandchildren, Franklin Weber Hill II, Leigh Collins Hill, Claude Maurice Pasquier V, and Marion Jean Pasquier; her "little brother" Dr. Henry Glenn Jordan; her niece, Sharon (Jimmy) Fuller and nephew, Troy (Karla) Jordan; great-niece, Rebekkah Jordan and great-nephew, Chayton Jordan. We would be remiss in not mentioning two special people in Mom's life, Dorothy Brown and Sheri Norred.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Bradley Freyer, Troy Jordan, Jimmy Fuller, Claude Pasquier, Weber Hill, and Jimmy Smith.
Donations are kindly accepted to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave. Shreveport, LA 71103 and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Like Daddy, she will remain a part of our lives forever.
