Funeral services celebrating the life of Huey Wayne Welborn, age 72 will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 705 S. Spruce Street, Vivian, LA with Keith Chamberlin officiating, Interment will follow in the Pelican Cemetery, Pelican, LA. The family will have a time of visitation on Wednesday, November 4th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Huey was born in Mansfield, LA on June 6, 1949 to Vance Garth Welborn and Doris Goodman Welborn and passed away at his residence on November 1, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was a welder with the Plumbers & steamfitters Local 141. Huey was a Lieutenant for the Rodessa Fire Department District 8 from 1970 until 1991, Desoto Fire Department from 1991 until present, Chief of Police for the town of Rodessa, LA from 1984 until 1991. Huey was also a long haul truck driver and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Huey was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Folmar and brother, Travis Welborn. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Shawn Wayne Welborn (Cherie) of Lockesburg, AR, Vance Welborn (Heather) of Rodessa, LA; daughter, Kristi Welborn Dorn (Jeff) of Hardin, MT; Sister, Selwyn Wilkins (Danny) of Shreveport, LA; brothers, Earl Welborn of Bossier City, LA, Valras Garth Welborn, Jr of Coushatta, LA; and step-brother, Tommy Mathews of Coushatta, LA. Huey is also survived by the mother of his children whom he was married to for 35 years, Glenda Fitts of Rodessa, LA and his life partner, Connie Brown; grandchildren, Cody, Marina, Colton, Swayde, Brandon, Kirstin, Kaylee, Kylie, Kaden, Jaycie and Paisley, Josh, Ethan, Zach, Mikayla, Jorden and Dakota James; great grandchildren, Oliver, Lincoln, Lexington, Presley, Adaline, Waylon and Edward.
Honoring Huey as pallbearers will be Colton Welborn, Swayde Welborn, Cody Welborn, Brandon Welborn, Kaden Billin, Patrick Canizaro, David Keener, Jr and David Horn, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jermaine Jones, Terry Covey and David Daniels.
