Howard was born on September 9, 1942, to Edgar O. Peterson and Florence Bounds Peterson in Athens, Louisiana, and passed away after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Howard was a devout Christian whose faith meant everything to him, guiding the way he lived and cared for others. He worked hard throughout his life, retiring first from TG&Y and later from Cypress Black Bayou, where he spent more than two decades as a maintenance supervisor. Howard was a man who enjoyed staying active and involved, and he filled his days with the things he loved most. Basketball, horseshoes, fishing, hunting, woodworking, dancing, playing cards, and bean bag baseball were just a few of the hobbies that brought him joy. He was also the proud number one fan of the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a chance to cheer them on.

Howard shared 20 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Shera. Family was at the center of everything he did. He loved his family deeply and took great pride in his many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, each one holding a special place in his heart. Howard’s steady presence, warm smile, and love for simple pleasures will be remembered by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and cherished memories.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar O. Peterson and Florence Bounds Peterson; stepson, Mark McCoy; mother-in-law, Edna Sheppard; and Patricia Ann Peterson (his first wife and mother of his children); as well as six brothers and two sisters.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shera Ann Peterson; his children, Sheri Green and husband, Jerry; Tim Peterson and wife, Tammie; Tina Ta and husband, Luc; Angie Peterson and partner, Deric; and Donnie McCoy and wife, Tina. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 32 great‑grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much.

Honoring Howard as pallbearers will be Tim Peterson, Blake Peterson, Terry Polk, Chris Polk, Shane Ta, Matthew Bounds, Chancy McCoy, and Andrew McCoy. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be deployed Army Specialist Chase Bounds.

The family would like to express special thanks to Heritage Manor-Stratmore and Lifepath Hospice for their care and compassion given to Howard.
