HORACE VAUGHN JORDAN

Horace Vaughn Jordan was born January 23, 1943, to Horace Vaughn Jordan and Bernice Turner Jordan in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed away after a lengthy illness on June 11, 2026.

Vaughn grew up in the Forbing area of Shreveport and was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. In his early years, he distinguished himself as a professional bull and bareback rider, winning multiple championships and traveling extensively on the rodeo circuit.

Vaughn served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.

Following his military service, Vaughn began a long and dedicated career with the Shreveport Fire Department. He was among the first drivers on the Rescue Units at Central Station and later served primarily at Stations #7 and #3. He retired as a Captain in 1995. After retirement from the Fire Department, he owned and operated a painting contractor business until retiring in 2010.

Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Brenda Cox and Susan Brasher and her husband, Ronnie Brasher. He is survived by his wife, Marianna Klemm Jordan; children, James Guidry and his wife Grace; Ross Jordan and his wife Sandy; and Marnie Hall and her husband Bryan Hall.

He was a proud grandfather to Alex Guidry; Caroline McKenzie and her husband Kyle; Blake Jordan and his wife Kendle; Garrett Schember; Anna Cate Schember; and Gabrielle Schember.

He was a loving great-grandfather to Penelope Jordan, Lee McKenzie, and Miller McKenzie.

Vaughn was a faithful attendee of Ellerbe Road Methodist Church in Shreveport and The Cowboy Church in Greenwood. He loved western movies, fishing, hunting, and especially enjoyed traveling throughout Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana.

He was deeply proud of his service as a first responder and remained closely connected with his fire service family throughout his life, regularly attending retired firefighters’ events. He was also a member of the Fireman Fish Cooking Crew.

One of his final reflections was that he was grateful for the many friends he had made throughout his life.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the former and current first responders for their support, as well as to Christus Hospice Shreveport, especially Brandi, for their compassionate care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
