Hervey Carl Shewmake

A graveside service for Hervey Carl Shewmake, 91, will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Rd., Keithville, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Leonard Lindsay. Hervey was born on December 11, 1930 in Pulaski, Arkansas to Eulus A. Shewmake and Ruby Florence Beasley Shewmake and passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Hervey was a resident of Shreveport and worked as a crane operator for the City Works Department before retiring. He went into the Army in 1950 and was a sharpshooter during the Korean War. He returned home in 1953 but later re-enlisted in 1956 and served another eight years. He loved his country! In his later years, he went to work at General Motors as a security guard. Everybody called him "Mr. Shew" as they entered the plant. He loved that job. His other passion was fishing. His greatest passion was his family. They were what mattered most in his life. He was such a great man! Hervey is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty June Wheat. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Peggy Shewmake; sons, Jeff Shewmake and wife, Denise, and Carl Shewmake and wife, Cyndi; and daughter, Tammie Shewmake and fiancé, Andy Reeves; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers; two sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to the hospice nurses at Christus Highland Hospital. Without them, we couldn't have done it. They were a Godsend. Hervey will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
