Marthaville, LA - Funeral services honoring the life of Henry Sylvester "Hank" Shirley, 71, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in Marthaville, LA with Rev. Brian Jennings and Rev. David Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jennings Chapel Congregational Church on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Hank was born April 3, 1947 in Converse, LA to Lee and Blanche Davis Shirley and entered into rest on November 4, 2018, in Temple, TX. He was a graduate of Marthaville High School and was a lifelong member of Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.
Hank served in the United States Army for 14 years; during that time he served in Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany and Fort Hood, TX twice and was also stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Bliss, TX and Fort Polk, LA. Hank received multiple medals during his time serving in the US Army, among those medals he received a Bronze Star Medal with Valor and three Oak Leaves, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, three Good Conduct Medals, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge and Expert Marksman Badge.
Preceding Hank in death were his parents and sister, Dorothy Derbonne. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his brother-in-law, Pat Derbonne; niece, Janet Tingen; nephew, Kenneth Derbonne; and a large family of cousins and friends.
