Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Helen Frances Broughton Prince, age 96, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street Homer, LA, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Beard, officiating. Interment will be at Tulip Cemetery near Athens, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9-10 a.m., prior to the service.
Mrs. Helen was born March 7, 1930, in Stark, LA, to Jacob D. and Mary Britt Broughton. She entered into peaceful rest on July 10, 2026, in Homer, LA. Mrs. Helen was affectionately known as Mamaw, Aunt Helen, and Mrs. Helen. After attending beauty school in Minden, Mrs. Helen had a home-base shop for several decades. She loved cooking for and feeding everyone. Mrs. Helen’s true passion was fishing, but should someone catch a white perch at her pier she would turn out the lights. Olin and her would fish daily and sometimes even at night. Helen was very competitive with her fishing and had an extra eighteen-foot pole in the boat to out fish Olin. They loved to share what they caught. Mrs. Helen was a spirited card player, an avid bird watcher, and deeply loved her Presbyterian Village family. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William Douglas Prince and second husband, Olin Lavelle Prince; two daughters, Joyce Ann Prince and Barbara Faye Prince; son, Wayne Dale Prince; sister, Margaret Alene Brazzel; and two brothers, Prentiss Elton Broughton and Cecil Shelby Broughton.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Marty Lowrey and Stacy of Homer, LA, and Jill Armstrong and Bob of Carrollton, GA; sister-in-law, Ethel Killgore; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Teagan, Gracie and Henry; great, great-grandson, Miles; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Helen’s family would like to express their gratitude to Presbyterian Village, Dr. Cliff Salmon, the staff of Bristol Hospice, and Calvary Baptist Church family, for the care and compassion shown to her.
Pallbearers will be Henry Rankin, Bob Armstrong, Mike Hollenshead, Marty Lowrey, Ronald Day and Shanon Echols.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Freeman.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Helen, her family suggests memorials be made to Presbyterian Village, Calvary Baptist Church or donor’s favorite charity.
