Coushatta, LA - A funeral service celebrating the life of Helen J. Griffith, 91, will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Wiley Cole officiating and assisted by Mrs. Helen's eldest son, Bro. Mark Griffith. Interment to follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church Wednesday morning. Mrs. Griffith was born on June 21, 1928 in Troup, TX to Curtis Clyde and Emma Wilson Jones and passed away August 10, 2019 in Grapevine, TX. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and previously Lakeshore Baptist Church in Shreveport. Throughout her life, she lived in Troup, TX, Shreveport, and Coushatta, and on January 1, 2019 she and John celebrated 70 years of marriage. Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Irene Jones Garrett, Mildred J. Harrist, Rayford Jones, and Curtis Jones. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Calvin Griffith, Jr.; her children, Mark Griffith and wife Lisa Griffith, Charlotte Griffith Witte and husband James, Eric Griffith and wife Doreen Lilly Griffith; her grandchildren, Leslie Witte Cooper, Brian James Witte, Daniel John Witte, Emily Carol Griffith, and Erin Elizabeth Griffith; and great-grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Taylor, and Catherine Anne Cooper. Honoring Mrs. Griffith as pallbearers will be Brian, Daniel, and James Witte, Randy Grigsby, Chris Moore, and Larry Lilly. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ben Bryant, George Simpson, Travis Guin and Ray Davis. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Oaks of Louisiana for their wonderful care and for the friends and families traveling to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
