A memorial Service celebrating the life of Helen Christine "Chris" Frazier Belk will be held on October 3, 2026, at 2:00pm at Broadmoor United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church or the Human Society of Northwest Louisiana.
Chris was born on October 1, 1953, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Ruth Duncan and Al Frazier. She passed away peacefully August 6, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana, surrounded by the love and memories of those who meant so much to her.
Chris devoted much of her life to caring for and investing in others. She earned her master's degree in education and spent 33 years teaching physical education in Caddo Parish. During her years at Herndon Magnet School, she touched the lives of countless students, serving not only as a teacher, but also as a mentor and steady presence during the important middle-school years. Her students and colleagues remained an important part of her life long after her retirement.
Retirement did not slow Chris down. For another 15 years, she lovingly worked as a family caregiver for several local families, bringing the same patience, kindness and care to the children she watched as she had brought to generations of students. In addition, Chris lovingly cared for her mother at the end of her life. She had a natural gift for making people feel cared for, and caring for others was simply part of who she was.
In the later years of her life, Chris found her way back to the church that had been an important part of her upbringing. Her faith became a meaningful source of joy and connection as she rejoined Broadmoor United Methodist Church, volunteering her time and participating in small groups, church events, and fellowship with others. She also treasured the friendships she maintained through the HMS Retired Teachers community, where she stayed connected with many of the people who shared her years in education.
But of all the titles Chris carried throughout her life, none meant more to her than Mom and Mormor. Her two grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, and she delighted being part of their lives. She also had a soft spot for her beloved grandpets, who brought her no shortage of happiness and affection.
Chris was kind and generous with her time for others. She always found a way to keep herself busy and connected to the people around her. She had a genuine love for people and a heart for helping others. Her life was defined not by one accomplishment, but by the many lives she touched- as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, mentor, friend, and caregiver.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Duncan and Al Frazier; her daughter, Kristen Belk, and her beloved Chihuahuas, Soffe and Sanne.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Steven Belk and Rebekka Rumph, and their husbands, John Medlin and Brad Rumph; her grandchildren Lillian Gorda and Aiden Rumph; and her sisters Kay Browning and Beth Gilliard. She also leaves behind countless former students, colleagues, families, church friends, and others whose lives were made better by knowing her.
Chris will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her greatest legacy will not be found in a list of accomplishments, but in the people she cared for, encouraged, taught, and loved throughout her life.
