Gwen was born on September 1, 1927 in DeRidder, Louisiana to William Beryl Morrow and Lillian Estelle Bigby Morrow and passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Gwen was a 1947 graduate at Highland Sanitorium School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Warren L. McRae, always “Mac” to her. After her service in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, she enjoyed a 35-year career at Shriners Hospital in Shreveport. In 1965 she became the Administrator of Shriners Hospital and served in that position until her retirement in 1986. She and Mac enjoyed a peaceful retirement with many trips to Mountain Home, Arkansas in the fall and Lafayette, Louisiana in the spring. She also enjoyed many hours of mystery novels, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Gwen was always known for her easygoing nature and contentedness. She had a radiant smile that will be missed by many.

Gwen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren L. McRae; her parents, William Beryl and Lillian Morrow; brothers, Frank Morrow and Howard Morrow; and brothers-in-law, Milton McRae and his wife, Alice, and Ted McRae. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, John Morrow and wife, Danna; sisters, Frances Cole and husband, Raymond and Rebecca McMullen and husband, Mickey; sister-in-law, Glenda Coburn and husband, Venton, and Errol McRae; and many nieces and nephews.

Gwen’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to The Glen Retirement System, especially the staff of the Stiles Apartments and the Woolf Cottage, for all their kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital or the Humane Society of Shreveport in Gwen’s name.
