Funeral services for Gretchen Budemer Long, 79, will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Keithville Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service. Officiating the service will be Rev. Chris Hough.
Gretchen was born on October 3, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana to James Christopher Budemer and Patricia Shearer Budemer and passed away on July 20, 2026.
She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1964 and married Burton J. Long in Shreveport in 1966. They were married for 60 years. She worked for the Caddo Tax Assessor's Office for 10 years before the birth of her daughter and later retired from the Caddo Parish School Board after many years of working as an administrative assistant. She loved being a Nana to her grandchildren and was looking forward to being a great-grandmother to two babies due this fall. She loved flowers and plants and working in her yard. She was a longtime member of Summer Grove United Methodist Church and in later years attended Trinity Baptist Church until she was unable to attend. She was very generous to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents, James and Patricia Budemer; sister, Martha Bussie; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnny and Juanita Long; brothers-in-law, Robert Dale Long, Sr. and Randal Brazell.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Burton J. Long; daughter, Jamie Hausgen and husband, Richard; grandson, Luke Hausgen and wife, Quendoll; granddaughters, Anna Montgomery and husband, Noah, and Erin Grace Sanders and husband, Nathan; sisters-in-law, Patricia Brazell and Kayla Long; nieces and nephews, Robert, Casey, Anne, and Dragan Long, Shawn Budemer, Brian Bussie and wife, Keturah, and Kyle Bussie.
Honoring Gretchen as pallbearers will be Richard Hausgen, Luke Hausgen, Noah Montgomery, Nathan Sanders, Patrick Dodd, and Joshua Robinson.
