Gloria Jean "Jeannie" Johnson Mays

Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Johnson Mays, 79, of Logansport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2024. She was born on August 21, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Lennie and Audrie Johnson.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana. Funeral services honoring the life of Jeannie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Bro. Richard Tull. Interment will be held at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road in Shreveport. Honoring Jeannie as pallbearers will be Keith Mays, WH Stone, Jeff Jackson, Ricky Temple, Tyler Mays, and Sam Gonzales.

Jeannie loved spending time in the great outdoors fishing on the Sabine River and playing Yahtzee with family and friends. This tiny matriarch was huge in personality. There was almost nothing she could not do. She taught her boys to hunt, fish, and camp and took great care of her ill husband. She managed to accomplish all tasks while working a full-time position with the predecessor to AT&T. When offered an early retirement in her forties, she jumped on it! Jeannie spent many happy years with family, caring for her large rose garden, and fishing in her beloved Sabine River. She will be greatly missed.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Lennie and Audrie Johnson; husband, Eric L. Mays; and sisters, Betty R. Conniff and Velta McCarty. Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Mack Mays and wife Lee Ann Woodall, Brad Mays, and Phil (Daren) Mays and partner Dan Hartgrove; grandchildren, Keith Mays and partner Jima Flores, Tyler Mays and wife Teddie, and Leah Mays; great-grandchildren, Colbi Mays and Colt and Nova Kinard; siblings, Louise Waren and husband Jack, Eldora Donelly, O’Neil Johnson and wife Ruth, Alton Johnson and wife Mary, and Ginger Nolte.
