Glenda Mae Nixon Young

Glenda Mae Nixon Young passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, after a long illness at the age of 83. She will be remembered as a loving and generous soul who, despite battling multiple physical afflictions in recent years, never lost her optimism or her determination to carry on. She set an example of grace and courage for all who loved her.

Glenda was born on April 30, 1942, in Arcadia, Louisiana to Glen Dayton Nixon and Lillie Mae Holyfield Nixon. She graduated from Gibsland High School in 1960, and the following year married her sweetheart, Gene Edwin Young. They moved to Shreveport to find work, and in 1965 welcomed their only child, Mark. In 1973, Glenda went to work for Commercial National Bank. She started at the bottom (literally), operating the check printing machine in the basement. By the time she retired in 1998, she was a bank vice-president managing the corporate trust department. Thereafter, she worked for Williamson Oil & Gas for five years. Glenda was active at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the altar guild and volunteered with Matthew 25 Ministries to feed the homeless.

As a wife, mother and grandmother, Glenda was both beloved and overflowing with love for others. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gene Young; her son, Mark Edwin Young (Barbara) of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Matthew Edwin Young (Emily) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Madeline Elizabeth Young of Denver, Colorado, and Patrick Joseph Young of Mandeville, Louisiana; and three great-grandchildren, Maria Thérèse Young, Sophia Zélie Young, and Ignatius Edwin Young.

The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of Christus Hospice and Christus Highland Medical Center for providing such loving care to Glenda, as well as Father Michael Cannon for his prayers and spiritual guidance during this difficult time, and Cloe Rinehart for her kind and tireless assistance.

Honoring Glenda as pallbearers will be Matthew Young, Patrick Young, Earl Hebert, Malcolm Statlander, Bob Williamson, Matthew Welborn, Michael Young and James Thompson.
