George William Hollis, Sr. of Shreveport, LA was born to Hulbert & Auby Hollis at his home on May 18, 1934 in Spearsville, LA. He passed away with his family by his side on December 8, 2018. George was a member of the Huntington Park church of Christ in Shreveport, LA. He loved the church very much and dedicated much of his time serving the church and its members. George retired from SWEPCO after 39 years of service in 1991. He was very proud of his knowledge of electricity and loved sharing it and teaching co-workers during his years with SWEPCO. George grew up in Spearsville, LA and was proud of his roots and everything he was able to accomplish from his simple country raising. He was drafted in the Army and served in Hanau, Germany from 1956 to 1958 with his new bride, Ann Hollis, by his side. He always cherished his time serving his country in Germany where his first child, George Hollis, Jr. was born. George was known for his beautiful, large gardens where he grew vegetables for his family and friends to enjoy. Fresh purple hull peas, potatoes, corn, squash & tomatoes were always in abundance when his health allowed him to grow his garden. He grew his gardens the old fashion way with a push plow and a garden hoe and it was always a sight to see. George loved the outdoors and had a passion for bow hunting and fishing. He always had a story to tell or a prank to play on his friends, family, or even complete strangers. His family and friends will always cherish these memories he has left behind. George was a perfectionist and did everything with passion and to the best of his ability. He raised his family with passion and taught them how Christians were to live. George was a great example and had a positive influence in many lives and will be dearly missed. George was blessed with the greatest wife, Ann, for 64 years and 4 children who love him more than words can express. We thank God for a life well lived! George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann Hollis, 2 sons; Mark and his wife Linda; Ralph and his wife Jody; 1 daughter, Melinda Hampson; 7 grandsons, Justin Hollis, Chandler Hollis, Chesley Hollis, Wade Hollis, Briton Hampson, Mason Hollis & Hunter Hollis; 4 granddaughters, Lauren Hampson, Katie Hollis, Aubrey Hollis, and Ava Hollis; 3 great grandsons, Evan Hollis, Ryan Hollis & Brady Hollis and 1 great granddaughter, Quinn Hollis.
