George Larry Dean

HOMER, LA: George Larry Dean, Sr., passed away due to a prolonged illness at his home on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 83 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean Stewart and W. P. Dean and in-laws, Clotele Tinsley and J.C. Monzingo, grandson-in-law, Tom "Reece" Hutson, III, sister-in-law, Carolyn Monzingo Ulmer and brother-in-law, John Douglas Monzingo. Larry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Linda Monzingo Dean; his daughters, Melissa Dean Caskey and husband John and Belinda Dean Perry and husband Ronnie; his son George Larry Dean, Jr.; sister, Erline Dean Richardson and husband Joe. He was a greatly loved Pappaw by his granddaughter, Terra Caskey Salmon and husband Brandon, Brooke Perry Gardner and husband Chris, Bridget Caskey Hutson, Whitney Caskey Pearce and husband Dr. Tony; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Bella Grace, and Riley Salmon; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Larry was born in Ringgold, LA, April 1, 1938. He graduated from Homer High School in 1958. Larry lived his life loving God, family and friends. He was a member of First Church of God of Homer, where he served on the board as treasurer of the church. Church was very important to him. On Sunday mornings, he called his children and other church family members to make sure they were getting ready for church. Larry was very much a family man. He always put God first in his life and had a big heart for helping others. After graduating high school, Larry went to work for Ludlow Plastics of Homer, LA, where he worked for 50 years until he retired in 2008. At Ludlow, he was affectionate known as "Babe". He was a fifty year honorary member of the Masons. Larry served in the National Guard. He was also a Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardner member. Larry was known for his amazing and loving spirit of kindness and helpfulness to anyone he met. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the deer at his home in the pasture. Larry loved hunting so well that he did not let the freezing temperatures stop him. He would say, "When I breathed on my rifle barrel, it would freeze over." Larry was a perfectionist and self-motivated individual with a jack of all trades in everything he did. His children called him, "MR. FIX IT!" Services were held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer. Rev. Johnny Creasong officiated the service. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Served as pallbearers were John Caskey, Gary Daniels, Chris Gardner, Dr. Tony Pearce, Ronnie Perry, Captain Jody Richardson, Dr. Mike Richardson, and Brandon Salmon. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Clifton Salmon, Camille Wise, and staff of Claiborne Memorial Medical Center. We would also like to extend special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice, Magnolia Home Health, and his care takers, Mrs. Betty Glass and Mrs. Jackie Hardaway for their kindness, love, and support during Larry's illness. We truly appreciate the calls, text, cards, and acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers honoring Larry, his family suggest memorials be made to the First Church of God of Homer, American Heart Associations, or the Gideons.
