Bossier City, LA- George “Sonny” Raymond Cole, Jr., 75, longtime resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Sonny, as he was affectionately known, was born to George and Justine Cole on October 6, 1949, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Even as a young man, he set goals for himself and obtained his Eagle Scout rank in the local Boy Scout troop. After his own Father passed away when Sonny was only 15, he assumed the responsibility of caring for his mother and brother at a young age.
At 19 years old, he married the love of his life, Judy Lane Price, on June 7, 1969. They had met in junior high school, and they dated all through high school and into their college years while Sonny attended Mississippi College. He was always a hard worker and good provider, even while he was going to college while working full-time at a grocery store, and for Heinz baby food. Their daughter, Angela Lynn Cole, was born in 1971. When Angie was only two months old, Sonny received his draft notice for the Vietnam War and had already had his physical when he was selected to join the Mississippi National Guard. While he was gone for four months, Judy and Angie went to visit Judy’s parents in Bossier City, LA. When Sonny came home, the Cole family moved to Bossier City, where Sonny joined the team at Shreveport Mack Sales. In 1976, their son, Christopher Ray Cole, was born, and their family was complete. Sonny worked as the Parts Sales Manager for 44 years at Shreveport Mack Sales. He enjoyed working with his family, and he retired in 2015.
One of the highlights of Sonny’s life was his service at Airline Drive Church of Christ. He served as a deacon there, and he enjoyed working at Children’s Bible Hour. For seven years, three times a week, he stood behind a puppet stage and created a variety of characters aimed at teaching the love of God to children. He also enjoyed working in the bus ministry with his best friend, Jamie Wine, as they brought children to church. But his favorite act of service was dressing up as Santa for the Bossier KIDS ministry, as he brought the joy of Christmas to foster kids! He was such a jolly Santa that he even started visiting schools, hospitals, and individual families in our community.
Sonny loved to make his friends and family laugh! From pulling pranks on Judy by grabbing her ankles while he was hiding under the bed, telling lots of Dad jokes, and showing all the funny photos on his phone, he was never happier than when he could bring a smile to someone’s face. He was an avid sports fan and loved to take his grandchildren to Shreveport Mudbugs games. When he visited his granddaughter, Anna, in Nashville, he enjoyed taking her to Nashville Predators games, and they even went to see a Stanley Cup game! During basketball season, you could often find him sitting in the stands cheering on his grandchildren, Caroline and Andrew, while they played basketball at Providence Classical Academy.
He is survived and missed by his wife of 56 years, Judy; daughter, Angela Sullivan and her husband, Wayne Sullivan; son, Christopher Cole and his wife, Allison Cole; grandchildren, Anna Sullivan, Caroline Cole, and Andrew Cole; his brother, Lee Cole and his wife, Lana, and his best friend, Jamie Wine. He will be remembered by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Adara Price; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dee and Marilyn Bristow; his sister-in-law, Janet Martin, and his brother-in-law, Wayne Price, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Cole, Andrew Cole, Wayne Price, Dr. David Montgomery III, Jordan Montgomery, and Adom Cavazos. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Boys and Girls Basketball teams from Providence Classical Academy.
A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Providence Classical Academy in Bossier City in the Lower School Gym on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Officiating the celebration of life will be Stuart Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Providence Classical Academy, Bossier KIDS, www.pcabossier.org, or the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, www.disasterreliefeffort.org.
The Cole family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Willis Knighton North for their compassionate care: Dekota Breeden, Carrie Smith, Sophia Toranto, Aaliah Bivens, Jermissa Henderson, F.N.P., and Dr. Cory Markham.
