A funeral service honoring the life of Genette Wells Straughan, 74, will be held Thursday , October 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 943 Polk St., Mansfield Louisiana. Interment will follow at Zions Rest Cemetery in Wallace Community, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Roger Morton of Barron Road Baptist Church.
Genette was born on December 3, 1946 to Versie Lucille Roe and Roy Edward Wells in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana and entered into rest on Sunday, October 3, 2021 in Stonewall, Louisiana.
Genette was a resident of South Shreveport, Louisiana and worked for Brookshire Grocery as a bakery manager for 15 years and a pharmacy technician for the remainder of her time there. Genette graduated from Northwestern State University with a bachelor's degree in Education. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, traveling to the mountains, and spending time with family. She especially loved playing games with her beloved grandchildren, and would often suggest playing scrabble, cards, dominoes, or even filling out crossword puzzles. Wherever she went, laughter, joy and happiness were sure to follow.
Genette was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Allen and brother, Randy Wells. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth Straughan; daughters, Stacy Lincoln and husband, Scott, Kristy Straughan; brothers, Terry Wells, Milton Wells along with her 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Honoring Genette as pallbearers will be Alan Dreher, Wesley Spradley, Wade Lincoln, Kalem Lincoln, Michael McCrory, and John Wells.
