Gaye Nash Cranor passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana one day before her 94th birthday.
Gaye is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Caldwin Lee Cranor (Cal) and her parents, John Ryland Nash and Nita Price Nash of Logansport, Louisiana. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Cranor Sawyer and husband Chuck, and Nancy Cranor Assel and husband Mike; grandchildren, Kathryn Sawyer Kozak and husband Jeff, Melissa Sawyer Pless and husband Blaine, Allison Assel Barraza and husband Landon, all of Houston, Texas and Lauren Assel and fiancé Jack Houk of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren Ellie Pless, Charlie Barraza and James Barraza.
Kathryn Gaye Nash was born on February 4, 1932 in Logansport, Louisiana, a small town filled with family members who provided her with many cherished memories while growing up. Gaye attended Stephens College in St. Louis, Missouri and later graduated from Louisiana State University in 1953 with a degree in Education. While at LSU she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. It was at LSU where she met Cal Cranor, her devoted husband. They were engaged in 1952. After Gaye’s graduation she taught 4th grade in Logansport while Cal served with the Air Force in Korea. They married in Logansport in 1954.
Gaye was an active and dedicated member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the Couple’s Class for many years. She participated in various United Methodist Women’s groups, and she and Cal were long time members of a Bible Study group which they always enjoyed. She spent many years enjoying her time as a member of the Spring Lake Garden Club.
A family graveside service at the O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, Louisiana will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Dr., Shreveport, LA, 71105.
