Gary D. Salter

Gary D. Salter passed away in Shreveport on May 27, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born in Kurthwood, LA on April 5, 1944, to Marvin and Eula V. Salter.

Gary graduated from Many High School, received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Northwestern State University and later became a CPA. Gary practiced as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant for 50 plus years. If you were a client, he considered you a friend.  He enjoyed a good home cooked meal and was not above manipulation to acquire a good pie or cookie. Hunting was a lifelong passion for him and he always looked forward to hunting season, when he could put on his camouflage attire, go to the woods and enjoy time with friends and family.  He had many interests, but enjoyed spending time with and being surrounded with a house full of family most of all. He will be deeply missed by family and friends, but his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched. Gary enjoyed an unwavering relationship with Jesus Christ and believed personally in God's redemption. He believed that his last breath on earth was to be followed by his first breath in Heaven. He always said just roll my casket to the side and tell them about Jesus.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Eula V. Salter, and his daughter, Kimberly Salter Carroll.  Gary is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dolly Salter; sister, Peggy Amison and spouse, Ray "Andy" Amison; sister, Sherry Rumby and spouse, Greg Rumby; daughters, Kristin Salter Fiser and Kourtney Salter; son, Jeremy Salter; grandchildren, Madison Salter and spouse Avery, Rylie Salter, Zach Salter, Jackson Salter, Jessica Fiser, Olivia Fiser; and great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Aubree Concepcion. He is also survived by many other special family members, including in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and his assistant, Stella Jo Pullig, who kept him and his practice going.

Honoring Gary as pallbearers will be Jeremy Salter, Zachary Salter, Jacob Tipton, Avery Concepcion and Casey Dees.
