On Friday, April 3, 2026, Frederick John Huber, "Jay," began to celebrate a "Happy Heavenly Birthday" on Good Friday, his 97th birthday. There he got to meet his Lord, Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ.
Fred was born on April 3, 1929, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Frederick Joseph and Lucille Wallace Huber. He grew up in the city and after graduating from high school, went to Pineville, Louisiana with his younger brother, Bruce, to attend Louisiana College. He obtained a B.S. Degree in Chemistry, graduating in 1950. Fred lettered in tennis while there...a game he enjoyed as long as he could play. When he returned to New Orleans, he married Billie Jean Anderson, whom he had met in 1948, at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. They were married April 7, 1951. They were blessed with four children, Brian, Suzanne, Steve, and Mark.
Fred's first job was working as a paint chemist for Marine Paint Company in New Orleans. The family relocated to Shreveport in 1959 to work for George Sproull Paint Company. In 1972 he founded Caddo Paint Company. The business included a store and a paint factory. Two of his sons, Brian and Mark, purchased Caddo Paint from him in 1993, after which he worked part-time.
Fred and Billie loved to entertain friends and also travel. They attended Sunset Acres Baptist Church for many years where Fred served as an active Deacon, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir with Billie. Fred spent his free time refinishing many of the antiques that Billie brought home from various excursions and working in the yard of their home on Cross Lake. He loved fishing on the lake and taking the grandchildren out for a fun-filled day in the boat. They have ten grandchildren (and now sixteen great-grandchildren) who all seemed to be the delight of their loving grandparents.
Billie Jean "B.J." passed away on March 22, 2001, at home surrounded by her family following a year long battle with cancer. She and Fred had been married for 50 years.
The Lord blessed Fred with a second love and companion. He married Jo Ann Jenkins in July 2001. They enjoyed traveling together with Fred's brothers and their wives. They went on cruises and car trips all over the United States. Jo Ann liked to work with Fred in the yard and enjoyed sitting out with him on the pier. Fred and JoAnn have spent their last two and a half years at the Glen Retirement Center where Fred really enjoyed bingo and dominoes.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Anderson Huber; parents, Frederick Joseph and Lucille Wallace Huber; daughter, Suzanne Huber Martinchalk; and sister-in-law, Lowell Huber. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, JoAnn Jenkins Huber; children, Brian Huber and wife, Marilyn of Keithville, Dr. Steve Huber and wife, Ann of Cleveland, Mississippi, Mark Huber and wife, Pam of Shreveport, and Rick Martinchalk, son-in-law of Orlando, Florida; children by marriage, April and husband, Martin Bradshaw, Lee and wife, Paula Jenkins; grandchildren, Jonathan Huber, James Huber, Emily Seale and husband, Matthew, Daniel Huber and wife, Tiffany, Dr. Matthew Huber and wife, Dr. Elizaveta Kovaleva, Joel Huber and wife, Hieu (Yo) Nguyen, Dr. Rachel Huber and husband, Corey Galvan, Paul Huber and wife, Alyssa, Elizabeth Clark and husband, Ramond, and Philip Huber; grandchildren by marriage, Trint Jenkins and wife, Terri, Emelie Daufenbach and husband, Eric; great-grandchildren, Haley, David, Paul, Ella, Esther, Magdalene, Lyric, Ezekiel, Asher, Marianne, Sterling, Rowan, Jubilee, Mercy, Lydia, Jason, Chloe and Levi; and other family members, Brother Bruce Huber and wife, Juanita, and Brother William "Bill" Huber.
