Francis Hightower Ledbetter

Mary Frances “Grammy” Ledbetter, age 91, of Bossier City, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, on Good Friday.

Frances was born on May 18, 1934, in Summerfield, Louisiana to Drew and Myrtis Hightower. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald Ray Schroll, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, and later Lt. Col. Larry B. Ledbetter who provided years of love and companionship; her brother, Shelton Hightower; and her sister, Joyce Brighton.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Melanie Garland and husband, Billy, and Christa Horton and husband, Shelly. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Bryan Talley and partner, Josh Stewart, Scott Talley and wife, Susan, Mandy Best and husband, Edward, Jessica Chace and husband, Alex, and Brittany Smith and husband, Corey. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kollin, Ashlann, Brylee, Brooklyn, Tallie, Rayleigh, and one on the way, Elliana.

Frances grew up on a dairy farm in Summerfield, Louisiana. She later moved to Shreveport, where she earned her business degree and worked faithfully as a medical secretary until the age of 73.

She was a devoted member of Southern Hills Baptist Church and Kingston Road Baptist Church. She found great joy in teaching Sunday School to residents at Summerfield Estates Assisted Living. Frances had a deep love for gardening, decorating, and shopping—especially for shoes. She enjoyed collecting antiques and fine silver pieces, treasures that reflected her appreciation for beauty and tradition.

The beach was her happy place. She cherished yearly family vacations to Panama City Beach and later fell in love with Seaside, Florida. More than anything, Frances loved her family. She created lasting traditions and treasured holiday memories that will live on for generations. Her grandchildren fondly remember spending every Saturday night with their beloved “Grammy.”

Frances was clever, quick-witted, and full of life, with a lively sense of humor. She shared many words of wisdom, but two of her favorites were: “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough,” and "Bloom where you are planted."

She truly lived life to the fullest, filling her home and heart with the people and things she loved. Through every season of life, she remained strong, faithful, and positive, always taking care of her family with grace and love.
