Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Frances Ann Lester Posey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the age of 88. She passed away at her home in Minden, Louisiana, surrounded by family.
A graveside service will be held at Mansfield Cemetery on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be her great-nephew, William Valentine, Pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church in Shreveport.
Frances was born in Mansfield, Louisiana, to Louise "Dimple" Funderburk Lester and Willard Owen Lester. She was raised by her paternal grandmother, Rosa Wilson Lester. On July 3, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, James Leon "Jimmy" Posey.
Frances loved the Lord, and her faith was the foundation of her life. She looked forward to heaven with peace and confidence. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mansfield, where she taught Beginners Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and prepared supper for the Youth Group every Sunday night. Her nurturing spirit touched many young lives.
After moving to Minden in 1996, Frances attended First Baptist Church. In her later years, she was a member of the Shut-In group, and she especially loved the fried fish dinners that Brother Bill Crider brought her.
Frances had many talents. She was an exceptional seamstress, cook, artist, cake decorator, and crafter, and her family and many others were blessed by the works of her hands. She retired from the DeSoto Parish Health Unit after many years of service.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Posey; her infant daughter, Angela; her parents; and her grandson, Bruce Holcombe.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Ann Posey Holcombe and husband Phil, Melinda Lea Posey Wilson and husband Danny, and James David Posey and wife Carol.
Affectionately known as "Nanny," Frances is also survived by her grandchildren, Jamie Lea Wilson, Daniel Tomlin Wilson and his wife, Chelsea, Robert Borden Wilson, and Tanner James Posey; her great-grandchildren, Dani Lea Rivet, David Rockett Rivet, Lillian Nicole Wilson, and a baby girl Wilson due September 4; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Jasmine Howard for the friendship and loving care she gave to our precious Momma and Nanny. Special thanks are also extended to the Passages Hospice North Minden team for their skillful assistance and comfort.
