Frances was born June 28, 1931 in Walkerville, Arkansas to Malcom Jason and Velma Talley Jones. She passed away Friday, October 1, 2021 in Bossier City, Louisiana. As a child Frances accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Her early years were spent in the Walkerville community in South Arkansas. She enjoyed reminiscing about the adventures in the country with her siblings. Frances moved from Arkansas to Shreveport after graduating from Walkerville High School to attend business school in the big city. Soon after moving she started a job at a bank in downtown Shreveport. During that time her friends set her up on a blind date with a man named, Charles "Smitty", who would soon become her husband. Smitty moved to Lockbourne Air Force Base on orders from the Air Force, soon after Frances left the South and joined Smitty in marriage. Frances lived many places across the United States and overseas as she raised her three children. She often said the spouse was as much in the military as the active member. They were stationed in Germany, France, Alaska, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas and Louisiana and traveled widely while there. Although the family lived a distance from extended family during active military years, they traveled extensively between Arkansas and Maine visiting extended family. Frances and Smitty\'s enjoyment of travel continued after retirement, they traveled throughout numerous states in their RV with their fellow Hayride Sam Chapter #37 members. During that time, Frances and Smitty served as Chapter and State Officers. Frances had many hobbies. She and Smitty had a garden on base for several years and shared produce with family and friends. They bowled in the Barksdale Communications Bowling League with friends, John and Margie Watkins. Frances enjoyed painting, sewing and crafting. Many crocheted pumpkins, bunnies and santas have been shared with family and friends. She also crocheted baby blankets. Amazingly she was self-taught and often figured out patterns by looking at samples. Frances enjoyed word games especially Suduko, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved playing card games and dominoes. For even more excitement, Frances enjoyed watching PBR bull riding; she cheered on many cowboys to have a successful ride. She participated in women's bible studies at Broadmoor Baptist Church and Brookwood Baptist Church. Holidays such as Christmas and Mardi Gras were always a reason to celebrate with friends and family. Frances' legacy is the love she gave her children and family, she was wise and always had the best advice. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Charles E. Smith; sister, Margie Collins; brother, Stanley Jones and wife, Miriam; sister-in-law, Ellen S. Ackerman; brother-in-law, Troy Waller and daughter-in-law, Barbara Squires-Smith.
