Fluvia Alicia Orellana, age 57, died peacefully in her sleep on July 2, 2018 in Shreveport, LA. She was surrounded by her family and is now resting in the loving hands of Jesus Christ. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport, LA on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Pike Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Fluvia was born on November 28, 1960 in El Progreso - Guastatoya, Guatemala. She was the daughter of Candelario Vargas and Amanda Romero, who still resides in Guatemala.
She moved to the United States in 1981. She faithfully served the Catholic Diocese of Shreveport as cook and housekeeper for over thirty years. In her role, she assisted the priests and lay community at multiple churches. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, caring for her pets, and spending time with her family and her beloved grandchildren. Fluvia never met a stranger and always extended a hand to anyone in need.
Fluvia is survived by her son Jody Orellana and his wife Sarah and their children Isabel, Lily and Christian; daughter Lilian Erie and husband Chad and their child Grayson; and son Jimmy Orellana and wife Ashley and their children Mary Claire and James. She is also survived by brothers Romeo Vargas and Leonel Vargas, sisters Coeza Vargas and Rosa Amanda Lopez, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and Abuelita Chuz Orellana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Orellana who died at the age of 28, and she never married again.
Fluvia's children would like to thank the many priests, friends, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and family members who cared and prayed for her over the past 10 months.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Msgr. Murray Clayton Scholarship Fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Atlantic Ave., Shreveport, LA 71105.
