Everett Graham Cathey

A graveside service for Everett Graham Cathey, 76, will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend McKee Williams.

Everett was born on July 17, 1945 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Larkin and Clydie Walker Cathey and passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Everett was raised in the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home from the age of 8. It was an honor for him to have the opportunity to meet Reverend Harry Ezell, Minister and Administrator of the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home and Reverend Doug McGuire, Pastor at Trinity Methodist Church to give him their guidance and love when it was needed during his time at the children's home. He started playing football in the eight grade and continued playing until his graduation from Ruston High School in 1964. He worked for K.D. Kilpatrick at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston after school, on holidays and weekends until he had the honor to meet and then work for Mrs. Nellie Kilpatrick at Rose-Neath Funeral Homes. Mrs. Kilpatrick made sure he furthered his education at Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas. After graduation, he began his career with Rose-Neath Funeral Homes under her guidance. After Mrs. Kilpatrick's death, he worked under the guidance of Virginia K. Shehee, Andy Shehee, Nell Shehee and Margaret Shehee. He was a dedicated Funeral Director servicing families at multiple locations and generations of families for over 50 years until his retirement.

He married Thelma Louise Whisenant, the love of his life, on November 18, 1967 and they were married for 55 years. In his free time, Everett enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling to the beautiful state parks of Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Missouri with his travel trailer, wife and pets. He loved football and always made sure he followed the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and LSU Tigers as often as time allowed him. He attended Noel United Methodist Church and was a dedicated member of the Masons and Shriners until his health declined. Everett was always a happy person that had a smile on his face and loved being around his friends. Every year he enjoyed attending the reunion at the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Ruston where he got to see and visit with his friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Thelma Cathey; brother, Carroll R. Cathey and wife, Brenda; nephews, John Justin Cathey, Jason Cathey and Adam Cathey all of Manchester, Tennessee, Billy Rodgers and Creighton Cathey of Shreveport, Louisiana; niece, Karen Cathey and Tatum Eubanks and husband, Austin; great-niece, Emma Cathey; great-nephew, Asher James Eubanks; sister-in-law, Nancy Jackson and husband, Gene and a host of friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shreveport, Christus Shreveport-Bossier Health System, Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center, Benton Fire District #4 and Bossier Parish Emergency Medical Services for their excellent care shown to Everett during his illnesses. They would also like to express special thanks to all their friends for their prayers, love and kindness shown to Everett. May God Bless you all.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his colleagues at Rose-Neath Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home, P. O. Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273-0929.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
