Evelyn Kathleen Bonnette Ellis died Monday, September 18, 2023 at the age of 97 in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was born on September 2, 1926 in Atlanta, Louisiana to Raiford and Minnie Lee Bonnette. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters: Doris Spikes, Hazel Neal, Majorie Whittington, and Eleanor McKenzie; and her two brothers, Raiford Bonnette, Jr. and David Bonnette.

Her loving husband of 57 years, William Frederick Ellis, also preceded her in death. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas and enjoyed ballroom dancing together. Evelyn moved to Greensboro in 2014 to be closer to her daughter.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Kendra Ellis Martin (Matt), her grandchildren, Kathleen Martin Barry (David), Matthew Brunson Martin, Jr. (Millie), and John William Martin (Shelly), and 6 great grandchildren: Werth Barry, Anderson Barry, Brooks Barry, Beatrice Martin, and Lewis Martin. She is also survived by generations of numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is forever grateful to the staff at AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice of Greensboro) and Victoria Thompson, RN who were so caring and attentive to her needs. Sincere thanks to Abbotswood at Irving Park staff, Living Well at Home staff, and her Verra Springs staff who lovingly cared for her during her time in Greensboro.

A graveside service will be held for Evelyn Kathleen Bonnette Ellis, 97, on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana, 71103.
