Evelyn was born on March 13, 1936 to Elmer Willie Wilson and Lillie Ann Wilson in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Shreveport.

Evelyn was a resident of Keithville, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Byrd High School. After graduation, she married her husband of 50 years, Taris Cooper. She worked as a bookkeeper several years with different companies including her father’s welding business. In retirement, she worked for Caddo Parish Schools driving a school bus for many years. She attended church, Sunday school and ladies’ groups. She loved gardening and digging flowerbeds.

She was a breast cancer survivor in July 2022. She enjoyed travel and trips on cruises visiting scenic places, mountains, and even a train trip to San Francisco. She really enjoyed spending family time and visiting Gatlinburg and recently Branson. She loved to get a deal hitting garage sales and going to see movies often. (Also, it was a good place to catch a nap). She loved the Lord and was a part of a ladies’ bible study and loved those ladies dearly.

She was a loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother (aka Mimi or Nene), a loyal friend and prayer warrior to many. She was independent, stubborn, and strong willed. She had some strong “Wilson” genes she lived up to every day. But one thing we all know for sure was she had a deep love for Christ, her family, and friends.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Taris Cooper; parents, Elmer and Lillie Wilson; son, Dean Cooper; sister, Freida Holland; brothers, Buddy Wilson and James Wilson. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Gary Cooper and wife, Thelma; daughter, Sharon Briggs and husband, Ricky; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Honoring Evelyn as pallbearers will be Bryan Briggs, Ryder Briggs, Scott Cooper, Taris Cooper, Hayes Melville, Drake Foster, Phillip Wadley, Mike Allen, and Todd McCormack. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Devin Briggs, Cutler Hatt and Ted Bounds.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Randy Del Mundo and the ER staff of Willis-Knighton South for their wonderful care and compassion.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society and Providence Road Baptist Church.
