A funeral service for Ernest "Ernie" Roy Lane, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m.
Ernie was born to Roy and Julie Schattner Lane on September 1, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed away in Bossier City, Louisiana on March 5, 2021 at the age of 71.
Ernie graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1969 and shortly after, joined the United States Navy. He completed a tour in Vietnam during the time he served. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he served General Electric Company as an inspector for 32 years before retiring. Although Ernie loved the company and the many friends he had made, retirement suited Ernie well. He enjoyed the extra time it gave him to do what he loved most, tinkering in his garage. One of the only things he loved more than retirement was Ford and more specifically, Mustangs. He spent his time in his garage restoring his cars. He was a member of the Red River Classic Mustang Club and liked traveling to different car shows.
Ernie's greatest love was his family. He was an honest, straightforward man, who told you the truth whether it was the answer you wanted to hear or not. He instilled within his children the idea that every job should be done to the best of your ability and with pride. He always had advice and offered a fix to any problem. He shared his love of Mustangs with his wife, children, and grandchildren whether it be buying their first car or picking up Hot Wheels from the store before the grandkids came over to swim and stay the night. Ernie loved retirement for the same reason he made his famous "Ernie burgers" or stood in the driveway to wave goodbye to his wife as she left for work each morning, because he loved his family and the time it allowed him to spend with them. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Jessica Lane. He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Thornton Lane; children, Tamara Barker (Tommy), Aimee Pitts (Chris), Melissa Bass (Jason), Eric Lane (Brandi), Christina Dodd (Peyton), and Candace Philyaw; grandchildren, Hunter, Savannah, Morgan (Will), Mason (Amanda), Jacey, Easton, Everett, Gracie, and Aubree; great-grandchild, Weston; and fur-children, Molly and Ginger.
