Elwyn "Ty" Anthony

Born in Shreveport on May 25, 1936, he was the first child and only son of Arthur and Nettie Mae Anthony passed away at age 82. Elwyn is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Glenda B. Anthony; sons, Brian Anthony and Kevin Anthony; and daughter, Karen Douciere. He loved all his time spent with his grandchildren and has great pride in Mike, Sydney, Noah, Silas, Daniel, Arcell, and his four great-grandchildren. Elwyn is also survived by his sisters, Roma Parker and husband Ray and Ruby Anthony; nephews, Ronald and Ralph Parker; nieces, Allyson Austin and Erika Thompson; and many cousins he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and at an early age his sister, Arcell. His grade school years were spent in Hosston, LA and completed his high school and most memorable experiences in Ida, LA. It was in high school where Dad earned the nickname "Ty" because he had a similar stance at bat as baseball player Ty Cobb. However, basketball was the sport Dad enjoyed playing the most. When he turned 18, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country as Specialist 5^th Class spending much of his time in Chitose and Tokyo, Japan. After a short period at Centenary College, he began his civilian career at Libby Owens Glass Company both in Shreveport and Los Angeles, CA. Desiring to return closer to home and family, he returned to Shreveport in 1976 and began a career in life insurance, first with Commonwealth Life Insurance Co. and then Kilpatrick Life Insurance Co. where in 1987, he was transferred as manager to Central State Life Insurance in Pineville, LA. After retirement from insurance, he went into private business selling consumer goods to small stores. Dad's Christian walk began with his baptism at eight years old along with his sister, Roma who was seven at the time. Over the years Elwyn served God in many ways through his church, whether it was a Sunday School teacher, an Elder, a Superintendent, or lawn maintenance manager. Dad provided a valuable lesson as well as a great memory for his children when they worked together as a family to mow and maintain the grounds of their home church in La Crescenta, CA during their three-year residency. After Dad and Mom both retired, many years were spent traveling across the U.S. and Canada where they enjoyed the majestic beauty God created in our landscape. When it was necessary to be closer to home and see after aging parents, they shortened their travel distance and time away by attending southern gospel music events. The enjoyment and bond that is developed by a family being together was encouraged from the time his kids were small. On the commute from California to visit Louisiana relatives the family traveled in a tent trailer visiting national and state parks along the way. Mom and Dad gave us a love of traveling and seeing what he viewed as God's wonderful creations, such as Yellowstone National Park, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, and the backroads of the U.S. Love of travel continued after returning to Louisiana as many summer vacations were spent exploring places such as Yellowstone National Park, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, and more. Smaller venues and local campgrounds were explored wherever we lived. The importance of family togetherness was encouraged again through a joint venture with his parents in the purchase of a camp on Toledo Bend, where many hours were spent fishing, eating, laughing, and making loving memories with parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, kids, and grandkids. The three kids will always appreciate Mom and Dad making traveling a priority in creating family memories without extravagance as every adventure was loved by all. Our dad had a good sense of humor and great love for life, God, country, and family. He is very proud of all his children and grandchildren, wanting to support them whenever possible. After age and health limited his traveling, he attended sporting events, school programs, weddings, and most recently his grandson Noah's college graduation in Baton Rouge. His greatest happiness was spending time with family and we will treasure the moments of his last days that were filled with humor and laughter of a life well lived. The family wishes to express our most sincere gratitude to Christus Schumpert Highland for the Military Honor Walk of Red, White, and Blue respectfully given to our dad and family. A special appreciation is extended to the most compassionate staff on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 E. Bert Kouns. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Rose-Neath Southside with Mr. Tom Hilton. Interment will follow at NW LA Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Brian Anthony, Kevin Anthony, David Douciere, Daniel Douciere, Mike Anthony, Noah Anthony, and Silas Anthony. Honorary pallbearers are Floyd Jones, Randy Barnhill, Lee Peak, Ray Parker, Lyle Thompson, Charles Smith, and Don Brown.
