Elton E. Nix, Jr.

Funeral services for Elton E. "Gene" Nix, Jr., 73, will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Shreve City Baptist, 2810 Knight St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Blanchard Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Brother Roger Patterson. Gene was born on December 24, 1947 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Elton Eugene Nix, Sr. and Lorena Lowe Nix and passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Gene was the Pastor of Shreve City Baptist Church for over 20 years and loved to serve the Lord. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed experiencing God's creation in the outdoors. He especially loved turkey hunting and was active with The National Wild Turkey Federation. Gene was in the wholesale meat industry for over 50 years, with most of his career spent with Wilson Foods. Above all, Gene loved his family. To know Gene, was to love him. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Nix, Sr. and nephew, Dale Nix, Jr. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Rebecca A. "Becky" Nix; son, Andrew "Andy" Nix and wife, Emily; grandchildren, Logan Nix, Landon Nix and Lucas "Lucky" Nix and in-laws, Marvin Williams and Twylla Williams. Honoring Gene as pallbearers will be Darrell Ainsworth, Warde Liesman, Donald Bonnette, Bob Jackson, Jim Rabb and Daniel French. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Williams, Melvin Lawrence, Tom Cole, David Bamburg and J. D. Cottle. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice, especially Ashley, Renee, Barbara and Katie for the care and compassion given to Gene. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Shreve City Baptist Church, 2810 Knight St., Shreveport, Louisiana 71104. Gene was used by God in many ways to sharpen, teach, encourage and most of all love many peoples.
