STANLEY, LA--Funeral services celebrating the life of Elsie Floy Caston Gingles will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home chapel in Mansfield with the reverends Frank Ott and Delman Rogers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of DeSoto Parish, Elsie was born May 28, 1927, in Stanley, LA, the oldest of two children. After graduating from Grand Cane High School she joined the WWII Cadet Nurse Corps and attended Tri-State School of Nursing in Shreveport, becoming a registered nurse in 1947. That same year she married Robert E "Rob\" Gingles, a union that lasted until his death in 2007.
To her patients and peers, Elsie was regarded as a \"nurse\'s nurse\". She simply loved being a nurse and demanded perfection from herself and others. After many years of pursuing dual careers as a stay-home mom and a nurse at DeSoto Regional Medical Center, Elsie became the hospital\'s nursing director. One of her proudest accomplishments as director was helping lead efforts toward hospital accreditation. After leaving DeSoto Regional, she served as nursing director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mansfield, taking care of many of the same patients that she did earlier at DeSoto Regional. Elsie was also appointed by the governor of Louisiana to the board of directors of both the regional and state health care planning agencies.
A devout Christian, Elsie was an active member at Hunter Magnolia Baptist Church. There, she taught the adult women\'s Bible Class and was active in the Women\'s Missionary Union. Along with her husband she enjoyed reading her Bible, the company of family and friends, and traveling throughout the country and Canada in their RV.
Besides her husband, Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Myrtis Jones Caston and her brother, James Caston. Survivors include four sons, Eddie Gingles (Andre Gingles), Keenan Gingles (Kim Gingles), Lynn Gingles, and Roger Gingles (Kelley Gingles); eight grandchildren, Adrien Busequist, Jennifer Jagneaux, Natalie Hogg, Caroline Gingles, Jason Gingles, Erin Gingles, Melanie Riff, and Rachel Gingles; nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
