Doyline, LA On Monday, January 20, 2020, Elinor Lee Holyfield Powell, 89 of Doyline, Louisiana passed from this life and went to our Heavenly Father, following a brief illness.
Elinor was born January 3, 1931 to Milton Alfred Holyfield and Hallie D. Holler Holyfield in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray I. Powell, Jr. on February 16, 1949. They lived the Air Force life and traveled base to base within the U.S. as well as Thailand, Newfoundland and England. They settled in Doyline, Louisiana in 1973 and purchased a grocery store/gas station, which was run by their family until 2017.
Elinor loved to sing in her church choir at Doyline United Methodist Church, loved to fish Lake Bistineau with her husband Ray and enjoyed reading a good library book.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Ray I. Powell and four sons, David Ray (Ruby), James Kevin (Sandra), Richard Mark (Vanessa), and Gary Scott (Amie). She has 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Milton and Hallie Holyfield, her brothers, Tilford P. Holyfield, and Milton Holyfield, Jr. and her sister, Mary Lou Holyfield Thomas.
Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana, Friday, January 24, 2020 from 5 until 7 p.m. and services Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Doyline United Methodist Church with Rev. Leon Boggs officiating and burial to follow at Point Chapel Cemetery in Doyline, Louisiana.
