Eleanor McGrath

A memorial service for Eleanor Mary "Rusty" McGrath 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana, with Pastor Kendrick Banks officiating. Eleanor was born December 7, 1935 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to John and Gertrude DeWorken and passed away, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Bossier City, Louisiana. Rusty met her late husband Dan in the Late 50\'s through mutual friends while on a blind date in Oak Park, Michigan. They obviously hit if off and began their love affair by corresponding through the mail while Dan was serving in US Navy. They were married on July 16, 1960. During Dan and Rusty's 60 years of marriage, they traveled the world from Spain to Hawaii to Guam while Dan was in the US Navy. In her own words, she described her role as a housewife, "social secretary, domestic engineer and executive chef". Her cooking skills, down home sweetness and raw wisdom endeared her to Royalty and Heads of State, as her husband was called upon to entertain as part of his liaison duties in the United States Navy. Once, she was even fooled by her husband into serving hotdogs and chips to a young prince that wanted to be treated as a normal person for one day. Rusty enjoyed cooking, dancing, bowling, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and entertaining at the family home on Benton Road. She was a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother to her family and several generations of kids in the North Bossier City area. Even in later years, she was known to college kids more than people her own age and used to have "grandma talks" to the young kids at Master Irvin's House of Discipline Tae Kwon Do School, imparting wisdom and moral tales to young children with the sweetness and integrity of a bygone era. Rusty is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Daniel Jerome McGrath Sr., siblings; Jack DeWorken, Jim DeWorken, Margie Fullerton; husband Gary and granddaughter Kristin Danielle Baez. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Daniel J. McGrath, Jr. and wife, Debbie and Ivory Irvin and wife, Cynthia; daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" Baez and husband, Chris and Donna Rudock and husband, Robbie; two brothers, Bill DeWorken and wife, Mary and David DeWorken and wife, Maureen, two sister-in-laws Jeanette Deworken and Jerilee DeWorken; nine grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Baez, Nikki Seng, Jenny Day, Katie McGrath, Rachael Rudock, Ashley Rudock, Robyn Rudock, Albert Powell and Imani Powell. She was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother to many and was loved by all who met her and will be missed.
