Edward Warren McGowan

Funeral services for Edward "Eddie" Warren McGowan, 92, will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave. in Shreveport. A visitation will will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday. Officiating the service will be Brother Steve Pettey.

Eddie was a resident of Keithville, Louisiana. He was born on May 22, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Fred Warren McGowan and Murrell Hope McGowan and passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Shreveport.

Eddie was saved when he was 7 or 8 years old, and throughout his life he worked in many different places and roles. Among them were work at Hoppars Electric Motor Rewind, ML Bath Rubber Stamp, and the Shreveport Times where he inserted ads. He attended Fair Park High School, went to Trade School at Alexandria High School (Natatables Turbo), and also worked at Caddo Gas Station and later at Dixie Maid, where he was known for making some of the best shakes. In addition, he served in the Louisiana National Guard, attended Beaumont College, and had work experiences that took him to Texas. He also owned McGowans Gulf Station and worked at AT&T until retirement. Later in life, Ed served faithfully as a Deacon at Pinecroft Baptist Church in Shreveport, and after retirement he began McGowan’s saw blade sharpening business at home on Colquitt Rd. until he passed away.

Eddie’s favorites reflected both his interests and his values. He enjoyed movies with John Wayne and Audie Murphy and loved the TV show “Grit” featuring John Wayne. His favorite scripture was John 3:16, and he preferred the color blue. When it came to food, he liked Outback Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Dairy Queen. As he lived his life, he often said, “Life has been interesting,” a phrase that captured the way he embraced every chapter and continued to stay active, productive, and grounded in faith.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Ann McGowan; daughter, Deborah McGowan; sister, Betty Rankin; stepbrother, Doug Peters; great-grandchild, Dakota Briggs. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Brenda Wilmer and her husband, Steve; granddaughter, Stephanie Briggs-Wilton and her husband, Justin; grandsons, Matthew Thompson; Patrick Thompson, Brock Wilmer (Cely); and great-grandchildren, Kerry Thompson, Annabelle Thompson, Aubrey Thompson, and Kai Wilmer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Eddie will be greatly missed, but we will always love and cherish his memory.
