Funeral services for Edris Ann Hodge Maddry, age 89, of Shreveport, will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. A burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Dr. John Sullivan.
Edris was born on June 19, 1935 to Milton Hodge and Veda Louella Neese in Linden, Texas and passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, from a brief illness.
Edris graduated from Avinger Texas High School. She was an accomplished seamstress, continually making useful items for others, oftentimes personalizing each piece to celebrate the respective event (wedding, birth, etc.) of that person's life. She expanded her talents to include needlepoint, cross-stitch, smocking, crochet, and quilting. She has made a wedding dress, baby blankets, gowns, children’s dresses, potholders, and numerous framed art needlepoint pieces. For many years, she participated in an annual quilting week with her sisters, which she always looked forward to. In addition to her needling craft, Edris had a great love for gardening. She appreciated the names and beauty of most plants and flowers.
She worked for Bank ‘n Business Systems in Shreveport, Louisiana and Vanier Graphics in Benton, Louisiana. Through her years of employment, she was always a valued and dependable employee and gained life-long relationships with her co-workers.
Edris was a wonderful homemaker. She frequently made others comfortable in her home with meals she prepared. She took great pride in keeping her house and its contents in a clean and orderly state, ready for friends and family gathering at any time. She made it a priority to know her neighbors and her sense of humor and approachable demeanor were very popular with her friends.
“Nana”, as she was called by her grandchildren, was the biggest Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan. She knew all the players on the roster and watched every game with great pride and loyalty. Seeing the Rangers win the World Series was a great sense of relief for her last year.
Although she was blessed with many gifts, she may be best remembered for her charm, charisma, and her humor. Edris never met a stranger and left everyone she encountered with a smile.
Edris was predeceased by her parents; husbands; Louis E. “Pete” Leslie and Allen D. Maddry; son-in-law, Jimmy Day, and eleven older siblings. She is survived by sons; Danny Leslie and wife Louise of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; David Leslie and wife Kristi of Prosper, Texas, and daughter Susan Day of Shreveport; three grandchildren, Jennifer Ells and husband Phillip of Austin, Texas; Katherine Wilson and husband Robby of Waco, Texas, and Jacob Leslie and wife Bailee of Dallas, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Ells and Nora Wilson, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jacob Leslie, Phillip Ells, Robby Wilson, and Paul Davison.
The Family wishes to thank each member of the team at The Oaks of Louisiana for the care and camaraderie provided to Edris.
