HOMER, LA: Our community sadly lost a pillar on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 when Eddie Ralph Harmon, age 72, went to be with the Lord. He was born December 13, 1948 in Minden, Louisiana to the Late Mary Alice and Ralph Harmon. A graveside service were held for Eddie at Arlington Cemetery, Homer, Louisiana, on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Danny Baskin, officiated The family received friends and asked for everyone to wear a mask at First United Methodist Church of Homer on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., prior to the graveside. He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Earline and Robert Earl Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Bert Heckel and Tommy Lord. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 53 years who fondly called him \"Sugar\", Dianne Smith Harmon; son Ryan Harmon (wife Debbie) of Homer; daughter, Ginger Baker (husband Chris) of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Alice Heckel and Rebecca McDaniel (husband Johnny) all of Homer; brother-in-law, Gary Smith (wife Wanda) of Homer. He was lovingly known as Pappy to granddaughters, Allison and Ashley Hodges, Harmon, Hadleigh, and Hollis Baker. Also left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as, many friends who affectionately called him Uncle Eddie, Eddie Ralph, Big Ed, or ER. And he so loved each one dearly. Eddie was a 1967 graduate of Homer High School. He graduated in 1971 from Northwestern State University with a B.S. in Agriculture Business. Eddie served on various boards throughout his life including, Claiborne Academy, Claiborne Electric, Co-Op, Homer National Bank, and First Woodlands Bank, He was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Eddie began working at Harmon Wood Company with his dad at the age of 12. He proudly served Harmon Wood Company for many years until his death. He loved his family first and had a deep passion for timber and land. Eddie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing. He was also a never wavering, lifelong LSU fan. Serving as pallbearers are nephews, Joe Heckel, Mike Heckel, Scott Jones, Shane Lord, David Smith, and Thomas Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Clyde Burns, Mark Collins, Jimmy Hanry, Roland Liles, Lewis Odom, Wayne Perry, Susan Pepper, Al Ratlin, Joyce Sanderlin, Sidney Smith, Gordan Still, Nathan Thompson, and Mike Woodard. The family would like to thank Dr. Cliff Salmon, Camille Wise, and the entire staff at Claiborne Memorial Medical Center, along with the special caretakers, Sue Buggs, Kathy Gray, and Mary Evans. The calls, texts, cards, and overwhelming acts of kindness are truly appreciated by his family. In lieu of flowers honoring Eddie, his family suggests memorials be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Homer, Louisiana or Shriners Hospital.
