SHREVEPORT, LA - A service celebrating the life of Dr. James E. Moreland, 89, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Lisbon United Methodist Church, Lisbon LA. Officiating will be Rev. Terry Willis. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family will receive friends Monday, February 11, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street and 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at Lisbon Methodist Church, Tuesday prior to the service. James was born September 17, 1929 in Powhatan, LA to Angie McCasland Moreland and William Edmond Moreland and went to be with his Lord and Savior February 6, 2019, in Shreveport, LA. James was an Episcopalian in faith. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He was on active duty from January 1951 - October 1955, in the United States Naval Reserve from 1955 - 1983 and retired July 1, 1983 with the rank of Captain. James attended Centenary College of Louisiana, Northwestern State University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Louisiana State University with a Master of Science Degree in Zoology, Louisiana State School of Medicine with a Ph.D. in Anatomy. He taught as a Graduate Assistant in Zoology, Teacher of Mathematics, Graduate Assistant in Anatomy, Instructor of Anatomy, Assistant Professor of Anatomy, Associate Professor, Department of Gross Anatomy, Professor of Anatomy, Professor and Coordinator of Anatomy, and Professor and Chairman, Department of Anatomy. He was Chairman of the Department of Medical Education and Staff Services at Valley Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, PA, Adjunct Professor of Anatomy at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Anatomy, The Pennsylvania State University, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA, and Adjunct Professor of Physician Assistant Science, Saint Frances College, Loratto, PA. James was a member of Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, Association for Hospital Medical Education, Beta Beta Beta, Lamda Delta Lamda, America Association of Anatomists, Nu Sigma Nu, Xi Psi Phi, America Guild of Organists, Naval Reserve Association and Pennsylvania Association for Medical Education. He received Outstanding Faculty Awards from, Baylor University College of Dentistry in 1969 and 1970, and Marshall University School of Medicine in 1978 and 1980. His areas of interest included Electron Microscopy and growth rates of human skulls. James had many community activities Assistant Organist at Franklin Street United Methodist Church in Johnstown, PA, Assistant Organist at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Johnstown, PA; Washington Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Hella Shrine Temple all of Dallas, TX. He had seven medical related publications. James contributed to many professional programs from 1961 -1984. He participated in the meetings IX International Congress of Anatomists, Leningrad, USSR in 1970; X International Congress of Anatomists, Tokyo, Japan in 1975; and the 25th Annual meetings of the Anatomical Society of India, Lucknow, U.P., India in 1976. He was very involved in many medical committee activities. James was also a Biology teacher at Captain Shreve High School for over 10 years. In 1998, he was inducted into the "Circle of Honor." The Circle of Honor recognizes and honors those who have contributed time and services to improve the quality of life in the community and/or nation. They are selected from former teachers, faculty, outstanding alumni, community leaders and parents of CSHS students. James is preceded in death by his parents, William Edmond Moreland and Angie McCasland Moreland; brother, William Benjamin Moreland; two sisters, Ruth Elaine Moreland Simms and Genevieve Moreland Collins. He is survived by his sons, James Edmond Moreland, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Homer, LA, Russell White Moreland of Oklahoma; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Louisiana Care Tenders and his personal care givers, Roe and Henrietta for the excellent and loving care that you provided. We appreciate all of you involved in his care. It meant so much. Honoring James as pallbearers will be Brent Moreland, Timothy Moreland, Edmond Moreland Jr., Matt Moreland, John Barker, Ryan Bolton, Trent Siskron and Tom Siskron.
