Funeral services for Dr. Charles Wrightsman Armistead, Jr., 66, will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 522 East Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Officiating the service will be Monsignor Rothell Price.
Charles was born on December 24, 1957 to Charles Wrightsman Armistead, Sr. and Margaret Grigsby in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Willis-Knighton Piermont Hospital.
Born on Christmas Eve, 1957, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Armistead began his distinguished medical career at Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. His academic excellence led to his early acceptance into medical school before completing his undergraduate degree. He graduated from Louisiana State University Shreveport School of Medicine in 1983. Following his residency in Anesthesiology, he further specialized through an intensive care fellowship in Brussels, Belgium.
A member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Dr. Armistead specialized in cardiac anesthesia and was certified in transesophageal echocardiography. His dedicated service to patient care spanned nearly four decades across two states. He began his career at Willis-Knighton in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he practiced until 2001. He then served at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas, from 2001 to 2020, where he played an instrumental role in establishing the Cardiac Surgery Program. He returned to Willis-Knighton in Shreveport in 2020, where he continued his practice until January 2024.
A devout member of the Catholic Church, Dr. Armistead shared his love of music through his longtime service as a guitarist in the church band. He lived a life rich in both professional achievement and personal pursuits. He was an accomplished twin instrument rated pilot and an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. His appreciation for fine wine led to his membership in the prestigious Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles Wrightsman Armistead, M.D. and Margaret Grigsby Armistead, and his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Armistead; his children, Dr. Charles Wrightsman Armistead, III (Kayla Ray) and their son, Everett Chase; Christopher Wray Armistead (Kaelyn Elise) and their sons, Brooks Wray and Callum Reece, with their third son, Patton expected in December 2024; John George Armistead (Kyla Alane); Margaret Grace Armistead; his sister, Anne Winston Armistead Pistorius; nieces, Rebecca Pistorius Saye, M.D, Sarah Pistorius Buller, Christine Moody, Kathryn Jordon, Rachel McNerney and nephews, William Wray, Mathew Wray and David Galloway.
Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be Chris Armistead, Charles Armistead, III, John Armistead, Roland Stegall, Brad Goodwin, Steve Gehrig, Pete Nasser, Jim Carmack, George Wray, and Kevin Hill.
