Dr. Bernard Neil Walker passed away on February 8, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on May 1, 1937 in Haynesville, Louisiana to the late Bernard and Lucille Walker. He graduated from Haynesville High School in 1955. While in high school, he played football as well as the tuba and trumpet with the band. He went on to attend Louisiana Tech University, and then graduated from LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1962. After graduating medical school, he served in the U.S. Army as a physician before starting his practice in Shreveport. He married his high school sweetheart, Glynda Floyd Walker, on December 20, 1958 and remained happily married for 63 years.
As a dedicated physician, he served this community faithfully and diligently before retiring in 2000. One of his greatest career accomplishments was founding Tri-State Medical Clinic at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in 1977 along with Dr. Pierre Blanchard, Dr. Jack Coussons, and Dr. Ellis Cooper. At
the time of his death, he and Dr. Blanchard were the only remaining founding members. All of his Tri-State work family held a very special place in his heart.
He was a faithful member of the Lord's Church at Huntington Park Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for seventeen years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved the time spent doing so with his family and friends. It made for many of his favorite memories in life. A favorite pastime was watching any and all sporting events, especially when his son, grandchildren, or LSU were playing. While he was known for always being more of a listener than a talker, everyone knew when he did have something to say, it was worth their attention.
Dr. Bernard Neil Walker is survived by his wife, Glynda Walker; children, Kellie Harris and husband, John, Breland Walker and wife, Kristin; grandchildren, Logan Harris and wife, Whitney, Cody Walker and Breanna Walker; great-grandchild, Jason Harris; and sister, Linda McDonald and husband, Robert; along with many other loving family members. His life will be forever cherished by those that survived him.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Blanchard, Elite Health Solutions, specifically Veronica Frierson and Connie Baker, who were so caring and dedicated during this time; Nick Huckaby, who was always encouraging and supportive with his therapy; and Ark-La-Tex Home Health. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Huntington Park Church of Christ to support Southern Christian Children's Home. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Forest Park West on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
