Shreveport, LA - A Memorial Service for Dorothy Nan Amox Shackelford, 91, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018, in Couch Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Carl E. Rhoads. A graveside service will be private.
Nan died August 10, 2018; she was born October 1, 1926, in Hughes Springs, TX. Born the only child of John Carr Amox and Minnie Hines Amox of Hughes Springs, Nan grew up in Hughes Springs and went to high school in Greenville, TX. She knew Guy Kraft Shackelford throughout her school years, and they married February 17, 1945.
After the war, Guy and Nan lived in Dallas until 1965, when they moved to Shreveport, LA, for Guy to work in the steel industry. In 1965 Nan and Guy became active members of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, and they remained so for the rest of their lives. Guy had served as usher for many years, and both were in Sunday School classes together. Nan retired from the Caddo Parish Tax Assessor\'s office with more than 20 years\' proud service, including a six month term as Interim Tax Assessor following the tragic loss of Charles Henington on May 8, 1986. Throughout Guy\'s long illness in 2012, Nan sat with him at the hospital hardly leaving his side. Nan and Guy, called Kraft by family and closest friends, were very devoted to each other for 67 years of marriage. Quite simply, Nan\'s beloved family meant the world to her, and she had many cherished friends from her neighborhood, her church, and her retirement community.
Her children are John Keith Shackelford, wife Rosalyn Rita, nee Nicholas, and Timothy Craig Shackelford, wife Sheila Beth, nee Gordon. Grandchildren are Adam David Swales and John Bradley Shackelford, sons of Keith and Rosalyn; and Cody Evan Shackelford (Sarah Eileen) and Chelsea Nicole Shackelford Rich (Daniel Dean), son and daughter of Tim and Sheila. Great grandchildren are Morgan Ashley Swales, daughter of Adam, Sophia Annette Shackelford, daughter of Cody and Sarah, and Warren Guy Rich, son of Chelsea and Daniel. All the Shackelford Family will deeply miss Dorothy Nan as mother, mother-in-law, grandmother \"MawMaw\" and great grandmother more than can ever be expressed in words.
Serving Nan as honorary pallbearers will be Adam Swales, Cody Shackelford, John Shackelford, Daniel Rich, Charles Henington, Jr., and David Henington.
