Dorothy passed away August 23, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born March 8, 1937, in Benton, Louisiana to W.E. and Florence T. Jones.

Dorothy graduated from Bossier High School in 1955 where she was a proud member of the Bearkat band. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Builders Supply, Clark Livestock Auction, and Mansfield Livestock Auction Barn. Known as Granny, she loved to craft, sew, cook, ride her zero-turn mower and chauffeur her friends to and from appointments. Caring for others was her passion, as was her relationship with the Lord. As a faithful member and church kitchen worker at Pinecroft Baptist Church, she was known for her chicken spaghetti and chocolate pies. Granny was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren sharing their pictures and stories with anyone she met.

Someone once commented that if they were allowed to have only one friend Dorothy would be their choice because of how faithful she was to her friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband James Kenneth McDonald, second husband Sammie Neil Brasfield; two brothers James Marvin Jones and Connie Jones, two sisters-in-law Louise Wallace and Florene Jones; and one son-in-law Kenneth Aulds. Left to cherish her memory are her three children Carol McDonald, Kenneth McDonald (Brenda), and Beth McDonald Shinault, two step-daughters Sandy Dunn (Johnnie), and Angie Aulds; eight grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas McDonald (Natalie), Collin McDonald (Chandler), Maci Cockerham (Brandon), Molly Meleton (Clint), Dr. Dustie Dunn (Jenni), Jennifer Yount (Beau), Jessie Dunn (Lynda), and Kaylee Aulds; eleven great-grandchildren, Wyatt McDonald, Kate and Smith McDonald, Nora Cockerham, Abram Meleton, Jaxon, John and Jeb Dunn, Jace, Stella and Elliott Tipps; and one sister-in-law Virgie Cross.

Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers will be Dr. Nicholas McDonald, Collin McDonald, Brandon Cockerham, Clint Meleton, Jessie Dunn, Mike Jones, David Jones and Jay Shinault.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Shinault, Tommy Cross, Les Cross and Monty Tarno.

The family would like to thank Dorothy’s friends at Pinecroft Baptist Church for all the years of friendship and prayers. Also, her caring neighbors Ken and Bunnie Moffett and Doug and Karen Baronet, and a special thank you to WK Hospice and nurse Christy for the compassionate care in her final days.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Pinecroft Baptist Church, 8002 Jewella Ave. Shreveport, LA, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Memphis, Tennessee or the charity of their choice.
