Dorothy (Dottie) Averitt Bailey

A celebration of life will be held for Dorothy (Dottie) Averitt Bailey, 85, on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the American Rose Center Chapel, 8877 Jefferson Paige Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dottie was born on December 8, 1939, to Jeff and Bertie Averitt in Coushatta, Louisiana, and passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Dottie worked as a personal sitter prior to her retirement, where she cared for others with patience and kindness. In her own time, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, working in the yard, tending to her garden and flowers, watching hummingbirds flutter by, and feeding the stray cats that always seemed to know where to find her. Dottie will be missed.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Bertie Averitt; her son, Robert Johnson; and her grandson, Michael Godijohn. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Diane Montano, Terresa Robinson, Deborah Cheney, and Cecil Godijohn. In addition, she leaves behind a legacy carried on by seven grandchildren, several great‑grandchildren, and two great‑great‑grandchildren.
