A visitation for Mrs. Dorothy Nelle Allison Loe (Dot) will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Arcadia, followed by a graveside service at Bear Creek Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Doug DeGraffenreid.
Dorothy Nelle Allison Loe (Dot) was born on August 24, 1928, to Perry and Lennie White Allison in Liberty Hill, Louisiana, the youngest of three siblings with Perry (Shebby) being the oldest, and William Reed (Lucille) being the middle child. She graduated from Bienville High School in 1945 when her husband-to-be, Thomas Alexander Loe, Jr., came home from WWII after being released from a German prison camp. They got married, and had a marriage which lasted over 50 years, until his death in 2002. Dot was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers.
As a young married woman in Arcadia, Dot was active in the Fidelis and Arcadia Service Clubs for many years. She served as school secretary at Arcadia High for 10 years.
Dot and Tom were members of Arcadia First United Methodist since 1952. She was on the church board and was a member of the Methodist Golden Agers. She at one time served on the committee of pastor-parish relations. Dot founded the FUMC clothes closet and ran it for 0 years, after listening to Pastor Doug DeGraffenreid preach a sermon on the need to help those who needed help. In later years, when Dot began to have to use a walker to get around, she became the official ornament untangler for the other church ladies to help decorate the Christmas tree each December. She truly loved her church and was faithful to it for her lifetime. In 2023, a broken hip confined her to a wheelchair at The Blake in Bossier City, which she called home until her death on March 16, 2026, at the age of 97.
Dot was an accomplished seamstress. One special project which all the grands remember was the card table cover playhouse. It even had clear plastic windows and the kids loved to play in it. One of her favorite pastimes in Arcadia was playing cards with her bridge buddies and enjoying their company. She and Tom took many trips after he retired from SONAT, with their favorite being the visit to the Holy Land. The family was shown the slides from this trip countless times. Dot and Tom especially enjoyed watching Thomas play football and were very proud when he received a scholarship to LSU. They also enjoyed listening to Peggy sing and play the organ at church.
Other favorite things in Dot’s life included working with ceramics and needlepointing. She enjoyed sharing memories of times with her beloved husband, family, and friends, with her friends, such as James Ballance, her beautician most of her life until his passing, and the Corley family who lived across the street for many years with twins who she called both Karen/Sharon because she could never tell them apart, and their brother John. Sledding down the big hill between their houses in the winter would always find Dot at the bottom of the pile. She absolutely loved oysters and fish, bread pudding, coconut pie, caramel cake, and all things sweet. Once during a visit to see her doctor, Dr. Leslie Sewell, it was mentioned that she would get out of breath easily. De. Sewell told her if she would lose a few pounds, she might do better. She replied that at that time, she was 93 years old and would rather eat her favorite foods than be able to breathe better.
Tom and Dot’s marriage produced two children, Peggy McCoy (Jerry) from Bossier City and Thomas Loe (Pam) from Ruston, three grandchildren; Amy Ray (Dennis) from Blanchard, Allison Halbert (Josh) from Benton, and Tommy Loe (Kim) from Salina, TX, four great grandchildren; Taylor Hockenberry (JP), Daniel Halbert (Jessica), Zach Halbert, and Alexander Loe, and 1 great-great grandchild, Walker Hockenberry. Her long-term friends include Frankie May Jackson and Flora Hartwell, as well as Flora’s precious mother, Gloria (now deceased), who helped Dot in so many ways through the years. Mom’s special friends from church were Roxanne Fallin, Martha Callender, and Robert May. The family would like to thank the staff of The Blake for their care, and Dr. Leslie Sewell for their outstanding medical care of Dot for many years.
Honoring Dot as pallbearers will be Randy Allison, Reed Allison, Tommy Loe, Daniel Halbert, Zach Halbert, JP Hockenberry, Dennis Ray, Josh Halbert, and Alexander Loe.
