After 101 blessed years in this world, Doris Ray Tatum has now entered her forever home in heaven. The worship service, praising God and thanking Him for her life and legacy, will be at 12 noon on Monday, October 28, 2024 in the sanctuary of Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will greet friends at 11:30 a.m. Dr. John Sullivan will present the message.
Doris grew up on her parents’ dairy farm in the Fairview community near Floresville, Texas. She was elected president of her high school senior class, attended Baylor University, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Seminary. Fulfilling the Lord’s call to be a pastor’s wife, she married Scott Tatum and was his helpmate for 76 years. They served together in First Baptist Church, Canton, Texas; First Baptist Church, Hubbard, Texas; Hyde Park Baptist Church, Austin, Texas; and Broadmoor Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana.
In her own words, she was a daughter who loved and honored her parents; a sister who helped to raise her two younger brothers; a wife who loved her husband and the people of their churches; a mother who did the best she could for her children, loving them and their mates; and a very proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother!
Her wonderful reunion in heaven includes her beloved husband, Scott; parents, Iley and Wilma Ray; grandson, James Tatum; sister, Arla Tyson; brother, Carl Ray and his wife, Lillie; and brother, Curtis Ray and his wife, Joan.
Family members now blessed by her legacy include her son, Dr. Wilson Tatum and his wife, Dr. Cheryl Tatum of Frost, Texas; daughter, Trisha and her husband, Dr. Dick Price of Shreveport, Louisiana; and daughter, Kathryn and her husband, Dr. Terry Land of Georgetown, Texas.
Her grandchildren are Jim Price and his wife, Cynthia; Dr. Alyson Land Denson and her husband, Wayne; Dr. Melanie Price Stivers and her husband, Jim; Derek Land and his wife, Stephanie; and Russell Tatum.
Her great-grandchildren are Chase Denson and his wife, Abby; Brett Denson and his wife, Tracy; Alex Denson, LeAnna Denson; Paxton, Tatum, and Kaki Land; Nicholas and Mallory Price; and Dahlia Stivers. Thanks to Brett and Tracy Denson, Doris even got to meet her great-great-grandson, Maverik!
The family is very grateful for the caring staff at The Glen, Lifepath Hospice, Jasmine Bajic, Linda Atkins, and other kind ladies who helped to make these last years good.
